THE POSTER
This research project initially relied on conference papers, a scholarly article and a website in order to disseminate its main research findings. Following the growing interest of historians to present their scholarship in a visual and concise manner, we designed a poster which serves both as a summary, a mobile exhibit, and an offline gateway to this website.

A Poster in Three Parts
The purpose of the poster was to provide a visual display of the main questions and ideas of the research project. It was composed in three different parts in order to allow different levels of engagement from the audience. A central picture gives a birds eye view of a child being passed from one boat to another in the South China Sea. Above, the poster presents the main issue of the research project. It states the definition of a refugee according to the 1951 Convention and underscores the fact that states and institutions did not share the same perception of the displaced population. Different perceptions are then explained. Each show the different cultural, political and legal dimensions involved in the representations of the displaced population.
